Perry Jowsey, Executive Director
Perry Jowsey holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Communication from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he is proud to be a first-generation college graduate. As a Doctoral student with the Department of Communication, Perry taught a wide variety of classes on promotional writing, public speaking, and interpersonal communication.
He transitioned into the nonprofit world, where he has helped lead 3 different organizations past the $1 Million milestone budget and also worked for 2 leading national organizations. He’s also proud to have helped start a nonprofit agency dedicated to helping people with disabilities, where he served as the inaugural Board Chair and helped lead the organization for 4 years.
In his free time, Perry enjoys as many activities as possible with his 10-year-old son Trenton, as well as coaching youth baseball and basketball, golfing, crossword puzzles, and gardening with his 4 backyard chickens.

Anna Cheshire, Program Manager
Anna graduated from the University of Tulsa in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in anthropology and minors in Biological Sciences, Education, and History. While pursuing her degree, Anna worked on programming at a variety of museums and other non-profits which led to her discovery of her passion for working directly with people to deliver educational and social experiences that enrich their well-being.
After college, Anna worked on property management, adoption, and snow sports to gain communication and administrative skills before accepting the position as the Program Manager for the Colorado Chapter of NBDF.
Anna is looking forward to giving back to and building up a community she is passionate about and connected to directly by her own experience with Hemophilia B. In her free time, Anna tries to spend as much time as possible outdoors by playing recreational sports, hiking, gardening, and more.

Chapter Advisory Board
Our board represents a cross-section of our community and is an advocate for the bleeding disorders community. The members work hard to ensure long-term sustainability of the organization so that the funds raised directly affect results.

Salome Aguilar, Chair
Salome Aguilar serves the Colorado Chapter on the advisory board as the board’s chair. In 2018, Salome was inspired to join our Colorado bleeding disorder community due to her nephew’s diagnosis. Salome has her Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross in Economics with a minor in German and Studio Art, and her Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from the University of Colorado. Furthermore, she is certified in Change Management and has worked on numerous system revamping projects. Currently, she works at National Jewish Health as a Training Specialist, specializing in adult learning and positive customer experiences. Her passion lies in connecting all members of the bleeding disorder community to resources and education through programming and outreach.

Briana Reinking, Vice Chair
Briana Reinking is a mom to two boys with a bleeding disorder and has been involved with the Colorado Chapter ever since learning of her first son's diagnosis. She has been a top fundraiser for the annual Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk for many years. She enjoys learning and contributing to the bleeding disorders community and has been involved in advocacy at a state and national level, winning NBDF's Advocate of the Year award in 2022. She chaired the Colorado Advocacy Committee for eight years and has served as Board Treasurer for four years.
Briana graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Science in Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She currently holds a role in a financial technology company, specializing in housing data and analytics. She loves traveling and spending time outdoors with her family including skiing, hiking, and camping.

Austin Lerner, Secretary
Austin Lerner has been an integral part of the Hemophilia community his entire life. As a person living with severe hemophilia, he spent many years as a camper at the Illinois Chapter. Since moving to Colorado in 2015, he's been an active participant in the Colorado Chapter, assisting with camp and other enriching activities.
Currently residing in Greeley, Colorado, Austin works as a County Supervisor, helping individuals access vital resources like Medicaid and food stamps. When not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Kylee, and their two feline companions, Amira and Ham.
Austin and Kylee have shared nearly a decade of adventures together, from thrilling motorcycle rides through the mountains to unforgettable concerts and exciting travels.

Krystal Starnes, Treasurer
Krystal Starnes has been part of the bleeding disorders community since 2017 when her 2nd child was diagnosed with severe hemophilia B. She now has 2 sons that are diagnosed with severe hemophilia B and continues to participate in chapter events. Krystal has her Masters of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Colorado and practices as a family nurse practitioner in primary care at CommonSpirit Health. She also serves on the provider leadership council for CommonSpirit Health.
In her free time, Krystal enjoys spending time with her husband and 4 children enjoying all the activities Colorado has to offer - camping, hiking, skiing, etc.

Kim Hurdstrom, Ex-Offico
Kim Hurdstrom is a Clinical Nurse Coordinator with the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center in Colorado. She has a BSN-RN from Walden University and an ASN-RN from College of Southern Nevada. She is certified in Clinical Care Coordination and Transition Management. She has worked with bleeding disorder patients for the last 12 years. She is a member of the NDBF nurse work group. She is part of the MSHN regional patient education work group and works with various members of the HTC to develop patient education standards at the center. She is a Colorado native and has 3 children.

Michelle Johanssen, Board Member
Michelle Johanssen is a mother of two boys with severe hemophilia. Born and raised in Vermont, Michelle and the Johanssen family keep close ties with family and friends at the New England Hemophilia Association since moving to Colorado in 2018.
Michelle has taken an active role in advocacy efforts in both New England and Colorado. She has participated in advocacy and awareness work with the New England Bleeding Disorder Advocacy Coalition, Beyond the Diagnosis, Washington Days, Colorado state advocacy days and the Colorado Advocacy Committee.
Professionally, Michelle has worked in both the vendor and hospital side of healthcare IT for 20 years. She graduated from Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont with her Master's Degree in Administration and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
During her free time, Michelle and the Johanssen family enjoy skiing, neighborhood bike rides, running, baking and visiting family and friends in New England.
